Risk and payments teams protect the operator's money, which is a different job from protecting the operator's licence. That distinction matters when you are reading job ads: fraud and payments work is commercial loss prevention, while anti-money laundering work is a regulatory obligation with its own reporting lines.

Fraud analysts monitor transactions for bonus abuse, collusion, account takeover and payment fraud, usually working a mix of rules-based alerts and manual review. Payment operations specialists manage relationships with payment service providers, troubleshoot failed deposits and work on acceptance rates, where a percentage point is worth real money. Risk managers set the policies that balance loss prevention against player friction, and get judged on both.

Roles are listed in Malta and across Europe, with payments in particular drawing people from banking and fintech backgrounds.

Salary ranges: EUR 28,000 to 36,000 for junior analysts, 36,000 to 55,000 at mid-level, and 55,000 to 70,000 for senior risk managers and heads of payments.

Key skills: Analytical thinking, familiarity with payment flows and fraud detection tooling, and an understanding of PSD2 and strong customer authentication requirements. Experience in banking, e-commerce or fintech payments transfers directly.
