Head of Editorial

We are looking for an experienced and strategic Head of Editorial to lead the editorial direction across our portfolio of gaming and esports news publications. This is a senior leadership role, based in Malta or Remote, with responsibility for setting editorial standards, overseeing daily news operations, and shaping long-term content strategy across multiple brands.

The Head of Editorial will oversee all journalistic activity, ensuring consistently high standards of reporting, analysis and storytelling. You will lead a distributed team of editors, journalists and contributors, while driving innovation in digital publishing and AI-assisted content production. This role suits a confident editorial leader who combines strong journalistic judgement with a modern, commercially aware mindset.

Roles & Responsibilities: 

• Define and uphold the editorial vision, tone and quality benchmarks across all publications.
• Ensure consistency, credibility and authority in coverage across iGaming, esports and the wider gaming industry.

• Lead, mentor and develop a remote team of editors, journalists, writers and freelancers across multiple markets and time zones.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performance editorial culture with clear expectations and accountability.

• Develop and execute editorial strategies that grow audience reach, engagement and industry influence.
• Balance breaking news, in-depth analysis, features and event coverage across core verticals.

• Oversee day-to-day news output, including breaking stories, investigations, opinion pieces and live event reporting.
• Ensure efficient editorial workflows and timely publication schedules.

• Maintain robust editorial policies, fact-checking processes and ethical standards.
• Ensure content complies with regulatory expectations within European and other regulated gaming markets.

• Lead the responsible adoption of AI tools and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, insight and content quality.
• Explore new editorial formats and workflows while safeguarding journalistic integrity.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with industry stakeholders, PR agencies, operators, suppliers, tournament organisers and regulators.
• Act as a senior editorial representative at industry events and conferences.

• Work closely with SEO, marketing, commercial and product teams to align editorial output with wider business goals.
• Support audience growth strategies without compromising editorial independence.

• Use analytics and performance data to guide editorial decisions and prioritisation.
• Manage editorial budgets, freelance spend and resource planning to ensure sustainable output.

Requirements:

• 6+ years’ experience in digital journalism or editorial roles.
• At least 3 years in a senior editorial leadership position managing editors, journalists and contributors.

• Strong understanding of the iGaming and esports sectors, including regulatory considerations across Europe.
• Confidence navigating fast-moving, regulated B2B news environments.

• Proven ability to lead and scale editorial teams in high-output digital newsrooms.
• Excellent editorial judgement and a strong commitment to journalistic standards.

• Genuine interest in AI-assisted content creation and editorial automation.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools, modern CMS platforms, analytics and SEO best practice.

• Outstanding written and verbal English skills.
• Additional European languages are an advantage.

• Degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

• Based in Malta or Europe, with flexibility to travel for industry events.

Nice to Have:

• Previous leadership role at a recognised gaming, esports or B2B media publication.
• Established professional network within iGaming or esports.
• Experience managing fully remote, international editorial teams.
• Demonstrated success delivering editorial innovation or new content initiatives.
• Familiarity with European gaming regulation, including MGA frameworks.
