Key Responsibilities
As a Junior News Writer, you will:
- Write and publish news articles and reports on gambling and betting industry topics under editorial guidance.
- Write interview questions and scripts for podcasts/videos.
- Conduct research on industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements affecting the sector.
- Assist in planning and conducting interviews with industry experts and stakeholders, shadowing senior journalists.
- Generate content ideas tailored to SiGMA News' audience, working collaboratively with the editorial team.
- Monitor industry news and developments to identify emerging story opportunities and angles.
- Edit and proofread articles for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to our editorial standards and house style.
- Attend SiGMA and industry events to gather information and support event coverage.
- Build foundational knowledge of the global gambling industry and its regulatory landscape.
- Network with industry contacts under mentorship from senior team members.
- Assist the SiGMA marketing team in promoting and sharing news content across various channels.
- Support SEO optimisation efforts to help increase visibility and reach of SiGMA News content.
- Learn and implement our editorial processes and workflows to ensure consistency and quality.
- Contribute to editorial calendars and assist in planning content schedules.
- Collaborate with writers and the multimedia team to develop engaging news packages.
- Receive mentoring and constructive feedback from senior journalists to develop your skills and meet editorial standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Strong writing and communication skills with attention to detail.
- Keen interest in the gambling, betting, or iGaming industry.
- Basic research and fact-checking abilities.
- Willingness to learn journalism ethics and editorial standards.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, international team environment.
