The ideal candidate for the DevOps Automation Support Team Leader role at Altenar is a charismatic leader with a strong technical background, responsible for optimizing team efficiency whilst growing its morale, maintaining system health, and ensuring seamless collaboration between diverse teams. The incumbent will ensure the team is organized to handle reactive work effectively and will drive more proactive planning with the Development teams, ensure Non-Functional Requirements are an integral part of delivery, uphold stringent change control processes, and improve communication within and across related teams. The leader’s effectiveness will be measured through the performance of the team, the quality of the work carried out in terms of accuracy, completeness and impact to service availability.  The leader will guide his team’s personal development, championing an environment of continuous improvement and technical excellence.  Upholding security principles is a direct responsibility of the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Team Management:
    • Lead and manage the DevOps Automation Support team to ensure efficient collaboration and development of team members' skills and knowledge.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and active participation in DevOps practices.
    • Oversee and ensure strict adherence to processes, including using blueprints in the correct sequence and following architectural review processes.
    • Provide the necessary instruments for effective troubleshooting and ensure that the team is well-equipped and knowledgeable in using them.
  • Environment Management:
    • Ensure the health and stability of Development, Staging, and Production environments.
    • Enforce the "Green Dashboards" rule, ensuring that there are no unaddressed alerts and maintaining a proactive approach to system monitoring.
    • Oversee the maintenance and updates of third-party components to guarantee a stable and up-to-date infrastructure.
    • Proforma regular capacity planning as well as annual summer stability check. 
  • Delivery Planning:
    • Collaborate with the development team early in the pipeline, establishing effective communication channels and contributing to solution discussions at the initial stages of development.
    • Align team activities with the Development team roadmap, planning 3-6 months ahead.
    • Contribute to the achievement of Support Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Process Controls:
    • Implement processes and controls for system and component updates and sanity checks
    • Ensure all changes to the environment go through the gate and peer review process.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Build and enhance communication and processes with other teams within the organization, fostering alignment and shared goals.
    • Participate in common prioritization efforts to align the team's work with business goals.
    • Establish and maintain an effective process for cooperation with technical leads of the product, fostering seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Coaching and Empowerment:
    • Coach team members, encouraging innovation and experimentation in a structured manner.
    • Empower the team to think creatively while maintaining a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Reactive Situations and Support:
    • Organize the team to handle reactive situations and support without disrupting project and business-as-usual work.
  • Security and Accountability:
    • Adhere to the principles of security by design and serviceability to manage risk and technical debt.
    • Demonstrate trustworthiness and accountability in handling company data and physical assets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related major (Engineering / Computer Science) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a DevOps environment.
  • Strong understanding of system and component updates, with a focus on stability and security.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and empower a team to achieve shared goals.
  • Familiarity with sportsbook solutions or the gaming industry is a plus.
  • Proven system administration experience in heterogeneous environments, with proficiency in both Windows and Linux systems. Familiarity with RPM package management is essential.
  • Proficient scripting skills in at least one of the following: bash, PowerShell, Python, or other relevant languages.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP and related network protocols.
  • Solid understanding of parallel development streams, code repository, and versioning systems, with a strong foundation in Git. Experience with build systems is crucial.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps and proficiency in managing development pipelines.
  • Familiarity with message queues such as RabbitMQ and Kafka.
  • Experience in implementing and managing monitoring systems like Zabbix, Grafana, and Prometheus.
  • Experience with database administration, especially with Postgres and MongoDB, is a plus.
  • Proven leadership experience in highly technical, multicultural teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage remote teams effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proficiency in project planning approaches/tools.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification.
  • Training or experience in conflict management.
